One of my favorite little things about snow leaving is the smell of the humidity coming back into the air. It feels like everything in nature is coming back to life. The blue sky, green grass, and the flowers! Seeing the beautiful colors in front yards of people's homes and seeing lovely flowers at the farmers markets is an instant delight. I cannot wait to buy a new bouquet! When I lived at home with my family, we could never have flowers since our cats would eat them or knock them over. One of the perks of living on my own!

Have you ever wished it was possible to hop in a time machine to see what life really was like back in the early 1900's? Style has immensely developed over the years and seeing everything for myself would be amazing. I usually influenced by the 1960-1970's era but also love the 1920-30's. The drop waist, finger waved hair, beautiful necklines, the cute little hats, I love it. The elegance seeps right out the computer in the photo above.. lovely.

Happy Monday: Surfing Soul

Ever since watching the movie Blue Crush, I have been obsessed with surfing. Even though I have always been drawn to the water, surfing has been one thing that I have not been able to since I live in Iowa. As you can imagine, we have zero waves. This is also one of the main reasons why I want to move to another state. Iowa is safe and great for family life, but I am ready for a new and different experience. Maybe I will end up somewhere by the ocean, who knows?

Valentine's day is a celebration for love. Even though I feel we should celebrate love every day, it is still a fun holiday to celebrate. All of the hearts, red balloons, heart shaped candy, these things put anyone in a great mood. I usually do not have a very nice Valentine's day but my boyfriend and I celebrated this weekend as we got all dolled up for dinner. What are some things you like about Valentine's day?

Channeling the 60's with this line, Betsey Johnson nailed it! From the beginning, with footage from The Beetles Tour Circa 1960, to the beautiful floral prints to the perfect colors.. I loved it. Betsey always knows how to put on a fabulous show and this one definitely did just that.

I love the flirty silhouettes Stacey Bendet used for the new line of Alice + Olivia. From following Stacey on Twitter, I have found that you can definitely see her through the line every season. It is very girly with a modern twist.

NYFW Day 1

The Fall 2012 RTW lines are AMAZING already. The few shows that were Livestreamed from YouTube definitely made me wish I was there in person to see the magic. Tadashi Shoji's garments were utterly amazing (my jaw dropped a few times.. not going to lie). Here is a recap from today of my favorite shows.

There were far too many favorites from Tadashi Shoji that made it hard to only pick a few garments to show. Black sheers trumped down the runway with plenty of reds, nudes + cobalt blues. By far, the best line I have ever seen from Shoji. Pay a tribute to the 1920's for this line.

A trend that has been continuously in the mix for the past few seasons begins with BCBGMaxAzria. Furs. Aside from being über chic, BCBG has made fur accents on jackets and sleeves instead of having a full blown fur get-up. The burnt yellows + oranges started the show and ended in jades + blacks.

Chadwick Bell is known for simple chic.. yet these moments on the runway were anything but. Even though the feathered peacock gown and the exaggerated orange ruffled ombré number didn't quite go with the simplicity of the show, I still loved each item. Who wouldn't love to strut their stuff in the orange?

The time has Come (Finally!)

Even though I am not invited to the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, I am there in spirit. Luckily, YouTube live-streams for us not-so-lucky people that are obsessed with fashion. The Hippinista will be solely dedicated to Fashion Week. There are many designer shows that I cannot wait to see. A designer on the newer side is Richard Chai. His Spring 2012 RTW show made me a new fan. I loved the patterned biker shorts, florals + studs, and cutouts of dresses. His eye for street style is inevitable when viewing his show.. hopefully this show will be just as grand.

The queens of the red carpet begin with Marchesa. This power duo creates gowns that are magnificently designed for dramatic, jaw-dropping gowns. Every season, I see many gowns that I would die to wear.

Isaac Mizrahi is someone I wish was my best friend. He may be frank, but he sure does know what he is talking about. His love for fashion truly shows in his line and never gives up on his vision, regardless on what the reviews may say.

These are only a few of the designers I cannot wait to see.. the list definitely continues. Which designers are you excited to see?

I have been think a lot about the future lately and cannot really wrap my head around being off on my own, paying my own bills, working a big girl job and being a grown up. I am also extatic to graduate since I have never been a huge school fan, yet who really is? One thing I am happy for is finding a major that matched me to a tee. Ever since I was a little girl, I have been extremely drawn to the water. My parents enrolled my sister and I in competitive swimming for years when we were growing up. The rush I felt every time the buzzer rang, leaping headfirst into the water was an irreplaceable feeling while competing with many other contestants. This is what sparked my interest of jumping into the open water from a rocky cliff. I definitely would like to experience this as soon as possible.

After receiving an internship and getting ready to sum up my college career, my feet are starting to get cold with every move I make. I have to keep asking myself, "Will I be good enough for my career choice? Will I find a job?" Many questions like this run through my mind. I have to think back and remember I chose this career path because I was not afraid. I knew many people from my hometown doubted me, but it was up to me to prove I can do this and I knew I could. Even though I will not succeed at every choice I make, at least I will be able to say I tried :). Here is my outfit choice of the week! I just purchased a pair of patterned pants from Zara (that are not available anymore) and thought I would share how I styled my outfit around them. I wanted to keep everything pretty basic since the pants are loud enough..

Everything about her outfit is perfection. The carrot orange blazer, electric pink trousers, ethnic head wrap and the fabulous black+white sunnies .. I love it all! Even though she is wearing such brightly colored clothes, it can still be worn in winter. Today has definitely been one of the warmest January days we have ever had and it makes me want to slide into my swimsuit and run out into the ocean. After seeing this photograph, I can still have summer weather on my mind and wear clothing that creates a summer edge during winter. The first moment I fell in love with sunrises was on the plane when I was in fourth grade en route to Florida. I was probably grumpy and complaining about being awake so early but right when I looked out the window, I saw the orange-pink sun peeking out from behind the clouds. Watching the sun rise in beautiful locations would definitely make each experience that much better.

Where would your ideal location be for sun-gazing? I would definitely be somewhere warm and beautiful.

I have always wondered why everything goes straight to gloomy and dark during winter? Why not wear florals and brights all year round? I love to keep my florals cycling through every season, no matter the conditions. I joke that I wear the exact same clothes during summer.. only in winter I add the tights. In most cases, it is very true. I had to get more creative since I have found a love for anti-denim jeans. I have never been a fan of jeans growing up because of how low the styles were. I still wore them. Now that I am in college I have stopped wearing jeans although they pop up once in awhile on colder days. It is fun to create different outfits that do not revolve around those denims. Florals have definitely played a huge role in my wardrobe and I feel that keeping them during winter is a must! Couture is in the Air

Sometimes I wish it was possible to wear extreme gowns and dramatic garments. Couture is amazing and is meant for, mainly, the runways. In my eyes, couture brings clothing to life. Designers are able to have the freedom to make the drama happen. My favorite Spring 2012 Couture line goes to Alexis Mabille. He definitely brought clothing to life through color and played with dramatic head pieces.

"It is only women who do not know how to dress that are afraid of colors." -Alexis Mabille.

There is something fresh about this line that I have not seen before. Even though there is a lot going on in many of the garments, they still all fit together nicely. What do you all think about Alexis Mabille's Spring 2012 Couture line? Are you crazy like me and love it!?

Today is a full day planned for this girl! We are having a photoshoot (which is always fun). I made a top to go with our knock-off project last semester last minute yesterday for the photoshoot.. It is finally Friday! I can hardly wait to begin the weekend and have an amazing time with my boyfriend and friends. Being busy with the future grown-up stuff has got me thinking in a different state of mind. I am definitely ready to do some adventurous, fun things out in the snow.. maybe some sledding?! Menswear fashion -- enough said. I love seeing men that appreciate fashion off the runway. A lot of men around here do not care about fashion and they throw on sweatpants and a sweatshirt with running shoes. Style.com had a slue of photographs that showed many men going to fashion shows and wearing their best. Many of the men were dressed similarly but made their outfits their own with accessories. I love the top photograph with the fabulous hat! Notice the awesome navy coats? Looking good.

I have found that when it is colder than a freezer outside, I tend to paint my nails in brighter colors or wear accessories that are bright and bold. Looking down at my bright nails or bracelets gives me an extra boost of energy that I definitely need. Even though I do not like wearing the color pink that often, I am extremely drawn to neon pink. It is unexpected and pairs beautifully with many basics. Neons are supposedly out.. but I am keeping neon pink in the mix.

Just when I thought winter was never going to hit us, it happened. I woke up yesterday with roughly 5 inches of snow on the ground.. Now that woke me up fast. I always say how much I would love to have summer all year round.. But having the snow visit us is definitely a nice change. Coming home to a nice warm apartment watching movies and drinking hot chocolate is my favorite. I was also ready to transition into spring clothes since we have been having beautiful spring weather but that will now have to wait. I have many reasons to be thankful and sometimes I feel that I do not fully appreciate what I have and instead wish for what I do not have. I need to take a step back and look at what I have accomplished as an individual and what I have to look forward to. The great news is that the future can always change and exciting and new things will always come my way. Even if you do not feel that other people feel the excitement you have.. it doesn't matter. There will always be people that will not believe in you.. believing in yourself is the most important. These are the things I am most thankful at the moment:

Landing a design internship in The Big Apple for the summer! ツ
Being placed as Artistic Director of our Catwalk show.
Having a supportive family and a supportive significant other.
Being able to go to college to begin with.
Having amazing new followers on my blog.
Having a warm place to live during winter
Having a job that I actually enjoy my time working.
Being alive in general.

Yesterday was such a perfect day, especially since the weather has been spectacular. Usually the snow is up to our knees and the wind is blowing like crazy. I will definitely take 60 degrees in January. I spent the majority of the day outside and had a relaxing picnic for dinner. My boyfriend and I found a perfect spot next to a pond in town. There were thousands of geese congregating by the half-frozen water. This definitely felt like a Notebook moment when Noah and Aly rowed across their pond with the white geese, beautiful! We shared chicken macaroni + cheese with a side of veggies.. it was delicious!

Good morning, good morning! This has definitely been the earliest I have woken up in awhile and I feel like there is so many things to do now. I have time to watch the Today show, go get coffee, read my favorite magazines and go on a walk in January. Winter this mild is far from awful. We are usually complaining about the weather at this time, yet the weather today is going to reach 60 degrees, yes, 60 degrees!

Happy 2012! I can hardly believe it is this year already. I have been having such an amazing time relaxing and enjoying time away from school. Last night we enjoyed fast food Italian style and went to a dollar theater for a fun date night. I feel so much less guilty spending money on a movie that is $1.50 opposed to $9.50. People always seem to think my actions are extremely random and I would probably agree. It is more interesting that way. What have you all been doing for your new week of 2012?

Good afternoon! I have been wrapping presents all night and today and was thinking.. I wish I had wrapping paper that was too pretty to rip apart, but never can find in stores. I have found some fabulous DIY wrapping paper ideas from the lovely Martha Stewart website that is sure to suite anyone's style. She has plenty of ideas that are easy enough for the not-so crafty people as well.

It is Monday! I can hardly wait for the middle and end of the week to arrive! It is my 21st birthday this coming Wednesday and our Thanksgiving break is next week.. It seems like just yesterday we were in our first class of the semester. As this semester is coming to an end, I cannot stop thinking about my future plans and what I will be doing this summer. I found this pothole garden at A Cup Of Jo. The artist was Pete Dungey from Britain. Pretty!

Have a Spooky Weekend!

Yes, it is Halloween weekend. I should be excited about going to Halloween parties and seeing everyone dressed up around campus tonight.. What I would really like to do tonight it watch scary movies, make caramel apples, carve pumpkins and hang out with my family and close friends. I think college is forcing me to become a home-body. Since the weeks are so stressful, hanging out at home sounds mighty fine tonight. I would love to hear what fun things you are all doing tonight for the Halloween weekend! Wednesday Favs!

This week has been wonderful! Iowa weather has been teasing us the past few weeks and yesterday, we were graced by one last 70 degree day of the year. Cold weather is never my favorite since we are limited by the activities we get to do outside. This leaves me plenty of time to blog and get my design projects finished before the weekend begins. I am very excited for Halloween! Here are a few of my favorite things from around the web this week :).

1. Jeffrey Campbell Elegant st. Flats. The studs are fabulous.

2. I recently purchased a stripe parka from Asos. I always feel cooler in a parka as opposed to a pea-coat for fall. This parka is definitely affordable and great quality.

3. Passion Pit is always playing on my ipod. The song Moth's Wings is beautiful and even better when danced to on So you Think you can Dance. I love how the stage looks like an autumn wonderland. What song is always in your head?

There are plenty of unique gift ideas as well as fun little gadgets for yourself. Basically anything under the moon that is neat will be in Wanelo.

Now this is how I mix patterns without looking like a hella mess. My word of advice is keeping things simple. If you have a navy and cream sweater, pair it with a navy and cream print. Faves for Wednesday!

It is finally feeling like fall here and starting to sink in that I will not be home much for the holiday's this year. I am going to miss sitting in my house in front of the fire place with a cup of hot coco. Even though I love living on my own (with my lovely roommates), I still will miss the simple things that I used to take for granted. Growing up is bitter sweet.

I also began working as a sales associate at American Eagle and finally bought the sweater I showed previously here. I definitely have new favorites from online shopping :)..

1. These Forever21 boots are affordable and adorable. They would also go great with virtually anything.

2. This Asos Blanket Coat definitely makes me want to throw it on and cuddle. Cold weather is definitely not one of my favorite things. Keeping warm in a woolly-wonder is a must.

3. I have been in search for the perfect dress form for about a year now. I love this Urban Outfitter's dress form. The fabric is awesome and there are plenty of sizes to choose from.

How do you all stay busy in the colder seasons? I am hoping to find a few fun things to do without being in the cold to stay busy.

I love almost every single shade of blue. Cobalt blue is one color that I forget about in my wardrobe but the one color that is great to use for a pop of color that isn't too bright. What all do you think about cobalt? Do or don't for fall?

1. I love Rachel Zoe's new line. Her pieces are made to last in your closet, but are still trendy. The cape is perfect with the cinched-in waist.

2. This sweater is beautiful. The color combination is one of my favorites. Shapes sweater is found at Stella McCartney

3. Asos is always superb! This neoprene pleat skirt is a beaut. Would you guys wear this color?

4. Last, but not least, I can hardly wait for Florence + the Machine's new album to arrive. In the mean time, here is her new single that I am completely in love with. Amazing.

Nina Ricci Definitely had skin on her mind while creating this wonderful line. During spring/summer, I love to be able to show some skin that has been all covered up all winter. I feel that Nina's spring 2012 line is perfect for that reason. Women can make clothes look amazing even when showing a little skin, as long as it is in the right areas. She did this without making the models look too over baring. What do you all think of Nina Ricci's spring 2012 line?

Witaj (Flickr is awesome, greeting is in Polish) everyone! How was your weekend? Mine was fabulous. My mother and I went to a World Food's festival and got to try all kinds of food from Turkey, India, France, Cuba, Mexico, Spain.. The list continues.

I am so happy it is Friday. This week has been one of the most stressful weeks of the semester and I am dying to have a fun time for once. It is out Homecoming and our Catwalk fashion show contest is tomorrow. I am very excited for this, yet also excited for this to be done since we have worked so hard to plan this event. I have found so many fun things on the internet this week and thought I would share an Etc. post this week.

Good morning to all! It is finally Wednesday and everyone I am finally getting a handle of the week. Our UNI homecoming is this weekend and my roommates and I are making a group dress for our Textile and Apparel fashion show contest. Wish us luck. :) I'll leave you with my Wednesday favorite threes.
Here are my favorite three items I have found this week over the net:

1. I am in love with Bert's dress for the 70's themed competition episode that is found at Piperlime. It is currently sold out, but I would love to get my hands on it, or make it myself. Even though it is extremely simple, the two-tone panels make it special. What do you all think about Bert's dress?

2. I love this outfit from Asos. The length of the leather skirt is superb. Would you all wear this length?

3. As I noted before, Alexa Chung for Madewell's line is amazing. The boots shown below are adorable, and yet another sell-out. I like the lighter grey color better than most darker boots for fall. Do you all like these?

Interviewing here with Guillaume Henry for Carven. I always love hearing about all the things designers find inspiring. Guillaume is amazing with the fact that it is a Couture house with not-so couture prices. Even though I could not afford the pieces at the moment, the garments are still beautiful. And of course, I love that it is a French house. France is the most beatiful place I have ever been. I am hoping to go back in the near future. But for now, I will be dreaming of France.

Good morning and happy Monday. How was everyone's weekend? I had an amazing weekend and enjoyed every second of it. Wishes for the Weekend!

Happy Friday, everyone! I am ready for a relaxing weekend full of fun. In between studying, I am wanting to watch a few movies so hopefully that happens. Possibly a bike ride with the boyfriend :). What are your plans for the weekend?

Shopping would be on my to-do list, but it will have to wait until my birthday. Here are a few wishes :)

One thing I cannot bring myself to do is get inked. I have put down two down payments on tattoos and I always chicken out. The one thing that keeps me away from them is that I know tattoos will be there forever and ever. In this day and age, I have noticed that it is the norm to have one. Usually, people seem surprised when they find out someone doesn't have a tattoo (especially in college). It is a great thing to be able to express yourself through tattoos, I just don't know if I can make a commitment on something that will be there forever. In twenty-some years, will I still like the same tattoo? What are your thoughts on tattoos?

A Time for Relaxing.

Good evening, everyone! It has been a crazy week already, let me tell ya. I have had barely any time to post so here is my little note. I have definitely tested myself today by trying to calm myself down with all of the stress that comes into my life. I am trying to make lemonade when lemons are being thrown my way. It is only a reminder that everything is happening the way it is suppose to. There is always a plan for all of us and we have to move forward no matter what occurs.. and remember there is always a time for dancing.
What are ways you stay calm? My best way is to breathe, drink green tea, and watch my favorite silly Youtube videos.

Happy first day of Fall! I am actually beginning to be a little more excited about the cold weather coming our way. Layers will be in the works. I want to incorporate my summer clothes into my winter wardrobe more so than I did in previous years (more for the reason I cannot afford new clothes). Wednesday, oh Wednesday, so glad you're here! The weekend is just around the corner and of course there are plenty of things to do. Aside from studying for exams, I will be attempting to finish a few projects and begin a garment that I want to make before the end of the semester. I wish I had much more time to work on extra-curricular activities, or if it was possible that we had more hours in a day.

The National Geographic never ceases to amaze me with their beatiful photographs. The inspiration I usually choose for the outfit of the week mostly comes from this website. The colors are amazing and full of inspiration to use! This photograph in particular was shot in Bangledash. Cultures all over the world are full of life and traditions that have been around longer than cultures in the United States. Seeing the traditions still in action amazes me!

Christian Siriano. That is all I need to say after seeing his beautiful Spring 2012 RTW line. I am in love with the colors of choice, the playfulness of dressed up with dressed down, the gorgeous textures.. Need I say more!? This is the second line I have been swooning over. I have always loved Christian, but there is a new level of respect I see of him after this line. Amazing job Mr. Siriano!

The moment we have all been waiting for is here! Spring 2012 RTW Fashion Week begins! I am already in love! Youtube has been amazing enough to livestream fashion shows. The shows that have been shown today include: Nicholas K, BCBGMaxAzria, Richard Chai, and Tadashi Shoji. Have you all been watching the shows? My favorite so far is Richard Chai. Their use of color and patterns are amazing. I can hardly wait for the upcoming spring season!

1. Vena Cava kicks off fashion week for Spring 2012 RTW! I love this line! The line is full of 1940's inspiration with black and whites with pops of orange and yellow. I can't wait to see more.

My roommate just told me about this amazing book! The author goes inside of children's rooms all over the world to see how each one of their lives differ. James Mollison is an amazing photographer. There doesn't even need to be writing with the portraits that speak a thousand words for each unique child.

Traveling Thursday: Bike Away

Biking! One of my favorite things to do during the beautiful weather seasons. I love how no matter where you are, you can bike from point A to point B or for leisure. While I spent my time in France, we saw plenty of bikes that were available to rent. I hope that America will do something like this in the near future.
